GARDEN  AND NURSERY RETAIL CENTERS SELECT ISCALURE-CITRELLA KIT FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF THE CITRUS LEAFMINER

The citrus leafminer Phyllocnistis citrella,is a damaging insect pest of citrus that is native to Asia. In the 1940s, it was first noted as a pest in Australia, and in the 1970s it infested other major citrus growing areas of the world. It arrived in Florida in 1993 and began making its way westward, infesting northern Mexico in the mid-1990s and finally California in 2000.

Since ISCA successfully synthesized the citrus leafminer pheromone and launched the ISCAlure-Citrella, it has been adopted as an important tool for the research, monitoring and control of the citrus leafminer by the CDFA, USDA, citrus growers, research and extension entomologists in the US and internationally.  The ISCAlure-Citrella, like all of ISCA’s pheromone based insect lures, is an environmentally friendly solution that uses the species specific, nature identical citrus leafminer pheromone to attract citrus leafminers to an insect trap.

In 2008, garden and nursery retail centers approached ISCA to supply and package ISCAlure-Citrella for distribution and sale at their retail stores, so ISCA launched the ISCAlure-Citrella kit (Product number IT-203K1). Each ISCAlure-Citrella kit includes two ISCAlure-Citrella pheromone lures, two paper delta traps and a species specific instruction and information sheet (which is also downloadable from ISCA’s product support website).

Since being introduced to the retail market, the ISCAlure-Citrella kit has established itself as a successful retail product, selected by numerous garden centers and nurseries, including:

“The ISCAlure-Citrella is the best quality pheromone lure for the citrus leafminer available on the market.  We have synthesized the pheromone to the highest known isomeric purity for commercial batches.  Many other factors go into the optimization of a pheromone lure, such as pheromone loading quantity and techniques, and pheromone blend ratios.  Our lures have been extensively field tested, both by ISCA’s entomologists and independent entomologists, to achieve optimal performance and longevity,” says Annlok Yap, Vice President at ISCA Technologies.
