The ISCA Ball Trap, an improved version of the McPhail trap, is used for trapping a wide variety of fruit flies (such as the olive fruit fly), yellowjacket wasps and other insects. Among other advantages, it holds twice the volume of liquid attractants compared to the McPhail trap, and it has a larger and more flexible receptacle to contain a wider variety of solid and liquid attractants. Comparative field tests have shown the Ball trap to be superior to other fly traps such as the McPhail trap and the Dome trap.
